In order to prepare students to deal with the tighter competition in the work market, Sampoerna Corner of UGM Library in cooperation with the Library Development Foundation of Indonesia (YPPI) and PT HM Sampoerna held a Career Preparation Training. The activity was held for two days, 27-28 July 2011, at the Library of Unit II.
Nur Cahyati Wahyuni, public relations officer of the Training, said that this event is one of the UGM Library efforts in disseminating information. In addition, it also serves as an effort in performing the function of interpretation of information entering the work market. "The reality proves that not all students are equipped with knowledge, skills, and personality adequately to face the more stringent competition at work," she said.
Cahyati mentioned that some information related to the writing of CV, strategy of filling out job application, writing a good cover letter, and preparing for interview tests are rarely obtained in a formal class. Although many books, articles, and websites on these matters, training still needs to be organized to bring students together with experienced experts.
In this event, a number of source people were presented, including Drs. Sumaryono, M.Sc. (Faculty of Psychology UGM) who led students in the Work Ethics and Facing Interviews/Conducting Negotiations session, Arum Darmawati, S.E., M.M. (Alumnus of MM UGM) conveying the Introduction to Law Labour & Employment, and Knowing System of Scaffolding / Organizational Hierarchy of Company. Furthermore, Drs. Iwan Eko Phambudu, M.M. (Alumnus of MM UGM) explained about Corporate Culture and Conflict Management in Company, and Emeralda Zoelkarnain (Manager of Learning & Performance Management, PT HM Sampoerna) delivered Employee Recruitment System and Making Application & CV.
