The Anang Batas exhibition “Fotodidak: Terpanjat Tak Terperanjat” (Photo-didact: Stumbled but Unsurprised) successfully ran for nine days from August 12 to 20, 2023, at UGM.
As the event’s highlight, the closing night was celebrated on Sunday (20/8) with a collaborative stage and a Wayang Tri Brata performance.
“It feels amazing to have put this display together. I feel a strong emotional bond with the campus,” said Anang Batas in his address.
“Since Wisdom Park is the sole urban forest in Jogja, I boldly held my work there for nine days. I hope that through this exhibition, we all at UGM can work together to preserve Indonesia’s richness.”
Anang also expressed his gratitude, humorously thanking the involved team, the entire organizing committee, and fellow alum friends who assisted.
“I want to thank Oblo, who selected 400 photos from the 10,000 I provided. I believe that the atmosphere of this exhibition is not just due to my photos but also because of Oblo’s intelligence. I also want to express gratitude to UGM, Wisdom Park, and others who contributed,” he added.
He acknowledged the Fotodidak exhibition as a creation marked by spontaneity, and it carried significant roles played by various parties. His friends, Dalang Ki Arief Nurcahyo and Encik Sri Krishna & Friends, hosted the wayang performance and acoustic stage.
Ki Arief Nurcahyo, fondly known as Ndan Yok, is the head of the UGM Center for Occupational and Environmental Safety, Health, and Security (PK4L), a position he has held since 2017.
Nurcahyo is a graduate of the UGM Faculty of Psychology and took early retirement as a member of the Indonesian police force. Afterward, he decided to serve UGM as the head of the university’s security unit.
The Wayang Tri Brata performance by Ki Arief Nurcahyo was themed around safety and order, titled “Geger Klitih.” This theme was chosen to symbolize his dedication to providing security within the UGM community and raise awareness among people about the importance of feeling safe and maintaining order.
“Tonight is livelier than the opening. So, I don’t think of this as a closing night, but rather an opening night for us to work together and ascend to the next level,” Anang Batas said.
He hoped that UGM’s successful journey could be realized parallel with efforts to preserve nature.
