JAKARTA – President Joko Widodo opened the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE), in Tangerang, Banten province, on Tuesday (4/8). The exhibition showcases innovative technology products as well as culinary products from corporations and agencies that include ministries, telecommunication companies and universities. This time Universitas Gadjah Mada showcases programmes, business units, and initiatives related to innovation and technology, including Innovative Academy, Gama Techno, and Student Creativity Products.
After opening the exhibition, President ‘Jokowi’ came to see the UGM booth that displays 8 technology products and listened to a description on gtSmartCity Solution innovation, which is the implementation of information system and technology focusing on 4 sectors: education, government services, transportation and logistics industry, and lifestyles. This is line with the vision of UGM that supports the development of smart city, which is less paper, less time, less cash, and less complexity.
Accompanied by Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati, M.Sc., Ph.D, President Joko Widodo is briefed on other products of UGM, namely Savinna, an unmanned vehicle that can be used as protector, discoverer, and maker of seabed maps. Malik, the developer, told the President that the tool resembles a sea drone that can be used to oversee Indonesia’s sea territory, do surveillance and exploration. “This ship can minimise the use of the Navy’s ships,” he said.
The unmanned ship measuring 2 x 1 meter square weighing less than 50 kilograms can be controlled using a remote control and GPS technology. The range of the ship reaches 20 km in 6 knots speed.
Malik said the sea drone still needed to be developed further. “I have asked (for the support of) President ‘Jokowi’ so that we can keep working on it,” the student said.
