KENDARI – Universitas Gadjah Mada became the runner-up during the 28th National Students Scientific Week (PIMNAS) held at Universitas Halu Oleo (UHO), Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi. During the closing ceremony on Thursday (8/10) at UHO mini stadium, juries led by Andang Subaharyanto announced Universitas Brawijaya as the winner with 10 gold, 6 silver, and 8 bronze medals. UGM students team won 4 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze medals. The third winner is ITS. Other universities in the top ten are Universitas Airlangga, Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha, Institut Pertanian Bogor, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Universitas Komputer Indonesia, Universitas Padjajaran, and Universitas Negeri Malang.
Although UGM unable to retain the championship from last year, UGM Director of Student Affairs, Dr. Senawi, appreciated the students, saying they had done their best for the competition. “I appreciate all the endeavours made by our students that finally became the runner-up,” he said.
Senawi said UGM would evaluate all achievements that have been made for better performance in the next competition rounds.
Learning and Student Affairs Secretary Director from Research, Technology and Higher Learning Ministry, Sutrisna Wibawa, said in his remarks that the event was a forum for young researchers to produce research works. He asked the students to continue researching to be applied for society.
Rector of Universitas Halu Oleo, Prof. Usman Rianse, considered the various researches made by the students should be followed up by the government in terms of further mentoring and supports.
