A team of UGM students consisting of Putra Herianto and Ichsan Ramadhan majoring in Geology Engineering became the first winner in the Celebes Geo Summit 2016 lasting from 8-12 February 2016 at Universitas Hasanuddin. This event consists of national seminar, inauguration of IAGI Chairman for South, West and Central Sulawesi regencies, national student paper competition, field trip and geotourism. The UGM team won in the national student paper competition.
In the event themed “Independency of Indonesia with Energy Diversification and Sustainable Development”, UGM team defeated other teams from Undip, UPN Veteran, Unpad, ITB, UHO, Unhas, Universitas Trisakti and Universitas Lampung.
According to Herianto they presented a paper with the theme culture and geotourism titled Baginda Hill: Geoheritage of Belitung Island, Indonesia. Data source is taken from the Baginda Hill in the Padang Kandis village, Belitung regency.
“We gave our best during the paper drafting and presentation to the jury. Eventually, we could come up with an achievement at the national level, which makes us proud,” said Herianto on Tuesday (15/3).
He explained it was not easy to get that win. They had to compete rigorously with several good teams from various universities.
The UGM team scored 436, Universitas Trisakti scoring 428 came second, and UPN Veteran Yogyakarta scoring 422 came third.
“I hope in the future the geotourism potential in Baginda Hill can be developed well by local government whilst more achievements can be made by UGM students at national competitions,” he said.
