The CS Bridge team of Bridge community UGM has won second place awards in the international Bridge Design Competition 2016 at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore from 19-20 March.
Team chairman, Raka Bagus Panuntun, said a number of universities and polytechniq from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore joined the event. UGM sent three teams: Putri Syahidah Firdaus and Sandy Kang joining Gama Bridge bridge, Raka Bagus Panuntun and Muwafiqurrahhman Prabowo in CS Bridge team, and Ika Rahmawati Suyanto and Surya Dewi Puspitasari joining Almond Blossom. They are students of Civil Engineering and Environment.
Muwafiq said all participants had to draft a bridge design and present it to the jury. “Assessment of the design is on aesthetics and strength to endure weight,” he said. Their bridge design is simple but able to perform well during testing.
“Our design came out the best during compressive stress with a total weight reaching 57.05 kg,” he said.
Secretary of the Civil Engineering and Environment Department, Ali Awaludin, ST., MEng., PhD., welcomed the achievement. He said the Department would always support all moves made by the students that want to progress and be competitive.
Head of Student Creativity sub-directorate, Ahmad Agus Setiawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., was happy with the win, hoping this would become the start for the Bridge community at UGM to make achievements in various competitions.
Agus added UGM was ready to support all student’s activities. He emphasised the synergy between universities, faculty, department, and study programme to increase the achievement.
