Three Industrial Engineering students of UGM competed in the Industrial Engineering on Action (IDEA) 2016 that was organised by Universitas Andalas, Padang, West Sumatera, from 25-28 April. The UGM students joining the Gajah team won first place award.
The team consisting of Alexander Hantya Mahardhika, Pingky Gita Ayuningtyas, and Stella Nadya Arvita joined other 15 teams going through to the final after passing online selection. They underwent three stages of competition that test their knowledge in industrial engineering science, simulation game and case study of a company.
In the first stage all had to complete questions on industrial engineering. For Simulation Games they had to work on supply channel network. Accumulated points of the two stages determined their place in the Top Five IDEA 2016.
“During Stage 3 we were doing case study of PT. Semen Padang cement company to resolve problems related to distribution and transportation. We presented the solution as well,” said Alex, team chairman, on Tuesday (10/5)
Five teams in the last stage were UGM, Universitas Indonesia, Institut Teknologi Bandung, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, and Universitas Telkom, which were all assessed according to analysis, solution, and presentation they offered. Based on these criteria, the UGM team finally won the competition.
IDEA is part of Industrial Festival series hosted by Industrial Engineering Students Association of Universitas Andalas. The third IDEA event raised the theme “The Acceleration of National Industry by Improving National Logistic Performance”. Here students are encouraged to be problem solver for various types of problems amidst globalisation challenges, using industrial engineering approach.
