Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati., M.Sc., Ph.D., today visits the house of the late student of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Febi Kurnia Nuraisyah (19), in Batam, Riau island. Rector is accompanied by Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. dr. Iwan Dwiprahasto, M.Med.Sc., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty, Drs. Pekik Nurwantoro, M.S., Ph.D, and other senior figures from the Faculty.
The Rector on behalf of all UGM academic community expressed condolences to the death of Febi. Her departure is a big loss to UGM as she was a smart, diligent and outstanding student. She was also polite and hard working.
“We are grieved and very concerned with her demise,” said Dwikorita on Thursday (12/5).
According to Dwikorita, since the report of the disappearance of Febi, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UGM had tried optimally and actively to help the local police office of Yogyakarta to find the person who had killed her. So, in a short time the police was able to arrest the culprit for further legal proceedings.
“UGM respects highly the legal process that is ongoing and hopes that the perpretator will be punished maximally,” she added.
Dean, Drs. Pekik Nurwantoro, M.S., Ph.D., added the incident was made a momentun for UGM to improve security and safety of all members of UGM academic community through preventive and promotive measures, which have actually been in place systematically.
Pekik thanked the Yogyakarta local police office, students of the Faculty especially Geophysics study programme, KAGAMA of Riau and Batam branch, and everyone who has helped the finding and funeral of Feby Kurnia Nuraisyah.
UGM further presented assistance to the family of Febi as a form of sympathy. The expense for the return and funeral of Febi has also been borne by UGM.
