Five students of Midwifery Department in Vocational School UGM to create a laceration model of infant birth canal (vagina vulva). This model is intended to help students learn how to sew lacerations birth canal.
The model that is called MOSAVANA was developed by Titin Setiyani, Wafda Ardhian Latansyadiena, Mentari Evarani, Marlina Fitriya LK, and Kharismadhany. They make these products through Entrepreneurship Student Creativity Program (PKM-K) with the supervision of Diah Wulandari, M.Keb.
Titin Setiyani, team leader of Mosavana, said that currently learning media to practice lacerations of the birth canal sewing is very limited. There is an obstetrics phantom for learning model but it could not be used to learn how to sew the lacerations of the birth canal. Meanwhile, other products for sewing learning showed no external female genitalia which would not support optimum learning.
“In addition to being props for perineum sewing, Mosavana also shows the female external genitalia. This model covers the function of the latex phantom and the use of handscoon which is filled with dacron,” she said, Thursday (9/6) at UGM.

“Marketing is done through social media and offline. The buyers are generally midwifery students from various cities in Yogyakarta, Central Java, and Sulawesi,”added Mentari.
Mosavana existence is expected to increase students’s skill in sewing the lacerations of the birth canal. That way, when they enter the workforce they can perform good suturing technique.
“We hope to acquire sewing skills that are good and proper so it would not cause unfavorable effects such as swelling, pain, redness, and excessive bleeding,” Mentari said.
