Universitas Gadjah Mada agreed to cooperate in education and research field with Coventry University, UK. The MoU was signed by Prof. dr. Iwan Dwiprahasto, M.Med.Sc., Ph.D., Vice-Rector of the Academic and Student Affairs, Universitas Gadjah Mada, and Prof. John Latham, representatives from Coventry University.
In this partnership, the two universities have agreed to conduct joint research, scientific journal writing, exchange students and faculty. Cooperation started on August 3, 2016 and it would last for five years.
Dr. I Made Andi Arsana, ST., M.E, Head of International Cooperation UGM, said Coventry University visited UGM to initiate cooperation. As evidence, they signed the manuscript of the agreement.
“The cooperation is comprehensive, there are various forms of cooperation that may be implemented together,” said I Made Andi Arsana in the rector office after the signing of the cooperation on Wednesday (3/4).
He stressed several things that were discussed and implemented by both sides. Among them was the research collaboration with the Center for Security and Peace Studies UGM.
“More like a joint degree, an exchange student and others. The cooperation is quite common, as we do with other partners. But this time is special because some of the cooperation forms have been run before,” he explained.
According to Made Andi Arsana, the collaboration with Coventry University as formulation only. This collaboration was formed by bottom up system, not top down.
“So, the collaboration has been going on for a while, this is only the official agreement. This cooperation will emphasis on two things, which are the issue of security, which is a kind of peace security and maritime security. The other one is related to engineering that is related to the maritime program,” he said.
