Four UGM students who joined the UGM International Expedition III team “Peak of The Ancestors” finally left for India on Thursday (4/8). Those students are Dita Novita Sari (Faculty of Psychology), Eva Lutviatur Rohmah Ning (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences), Ria Verentiuli (Faculty of Cultural Sciences), and Chordya Iswanti (Faculty of Agriculture).
For more than two years they trained to face Mount Stok Kangri located in India with an altitude of 6153 meters above sea level from 5 to 22 August. They were given physical exercise and knowledge for the mission to be a success, which is the International Expedition III “Peak of The Ancestor” (UIE III) Mount Stok Kangri India .
“(It is) Certainly not an easy thing to do,” said Verent.
While in India, the team will not just reach the summit alone. There are some other missions that will be taken by the athletes. First of all, they will hoist the Indonesian flag in one of the Himalayan tops coinciding with Indonesia’s Independence Day. In addition, the athletes will be the ambassador of Indonesia to introduce the culture and tourism to Indian audiences through a visit to a university in the city of Delhi. “Later, we will present it all,” she added.
Not only that, the team also hoped after returning from India the relation will be established between students of UGM and India. The team has been officially released by the Vice Rector of Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. dr. Iwan Dwiprahasto, M.Med.Sc., Ph.D., at the Student Center on Tuesday (2/8).
As known, Mount Stock Kangri is one of Himalayan mountains. Mountaintop Stok Kangri is one of the highest peaks in the Himalayan mountain range. (UGM / Satria)
