Students’ Mountaineering Club Faculty of Biology of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Matalabiogama, managed to receive an award from the Governor of Yogyakarta Special Region, Sri Sultan HB X , as a group of mountaineering that consistently played an active role in the field of conservation. This award is given in the context of Wana Lestari Competition Mountaineering CLub (KPA) at provincial level in Yogyakarta, organized by the Center for Forestry Socialization in Ministry of Forestry and Environment. The rcompetition was held as a way to appreciate the community, government apparatus, and a group of nature lovers who excel in forestry development. More than that, this competition is expected to increase motivation and active role of community in conservation activities.
The selection process of this competition involved all Mountaineering Clubs in Yogyakarta. After going through several stages of administrative selection, two nominees that are considered to play an active role in the field of conservation were selected. The Matalabiogama was announced as representative of Yogyakarta for the next stage of selection.
Dr. Budi Setiadi Daryono, M.Agr.Sc., Vice Dean of Academic and Student Affairs, Faculty of Biology, said Matalabiogama achievements cannot be separated from their actions to work to preserve the nature besides doing their hobbies, which are climbing and mountaineering.
He said Matalabiogama is an organization under the management of the Faculty of Biology as one unit of student activity. In October 2016, Matalabiogama reached the age of 42 years. “At this age, Matalabiogama has its own challenge to play its part,” said Budi to the reporters on Monday (8/8).
Furthermore, Matalabiogama would represent Yogyakarta in the national level, which is currently data verification phase. “We hope Matalabiogama could bring better achievements at the national level,” he concluded.
