Lecturer at the Department of Management Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Dra. Reni Rosary, M.B.A., successfully holds a doctoral degree after undergoing an open examination of doctoral program at UGM, Friday (7/10). On that occasion Reni defended her dissertation entitled Development and Validation of Psychological Ownership Measurements On Javanese Cultural Context in Indonesia.
Reni said that in the context of Javanese culture, there are two forms of ownership which are psychological ownership of social orientation (rumongso melu handarbeni) and psychological ownership of individualized orientation (romongso melu handuweni). Psychological ownership of social orientation includes five dimensions which are self-efficacy, identification of organizational form of self-identity and sense of belonging, accountability, relationships, as well as prevention.
“While the psychological ownership of individualized orientation consists of a territorial dimension,’ said Rani.
Other research results show the influence of psychological ownership of social orientation in the organization. Rumongso melu handarbeni has positive impact on organizational behavior, namely affective commitment and familial organizational behavior. It also positively relates to transformational leadership.
Meanwhile, rumongso melu handuweni has a negative effect on affective commitment and organizational citizenship behavior. This type of ownership also has a negative relationship with transformational leadership.
Reni explained that in the context of Javanese culture when someone has irumongso melu handuweni type of ownership, it means that one is still powered by lust and insincerity. This individual will use everything only for personal interests than social interest.
“People like this in the context of Javanese culture is considered durung Jawa (not Javanese yet). Because true Javanese has rumongso melu handarbeni greater than rumongso melu handuweni,” she concluded
