Another achievement has been made by students of Universitas Gadjah Mada that joined the debating unit, GAMA Cendekia, winning the National Agribusiness Student Competition (AGRISCO) 2017. The competition is organized by agricultural students association (HIMAGRI) of UPN Veteran Yogyakarta from 8-9 April. The team with members Fathur Hafizhi (Law 2016), Husain Ali Yahya (English 2016) and Shafa Arum Wulandari (Cartography and Remote Sensing) became the second winners in the event.
The journey to win the competition for the GAMA Cendekia team was not easy. First, they had to pass paper writing selection that generated 14 finalists from participating Indonesian universities including Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Airlangga, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Universitas Diponegoro, Institut Pertanian Bogor, Universitas Sriwijaya, Universitas Sumatera Utara, and Universitas Hasanuddin. The finalists later joined the debating event at UPN Veteran Yogyakarta.
“Thank God, we came third place in the elimination stage of all 14 teams,” said chairman of GAMA Cendekia, Fathur Hafizhi, on Wednesday (12/4).
In the final, GAMA Cendekia opposed the team from Universitas Pendidikan Nasional Denpasar and finally winning the debate.
Shafa Arum said the biggest challenge in this event was overcoming nervousness when debating on stage. “We learned so much from this debate competition, from other participants or panel of juries, particularly to raise our self-confidence,” she said.
Following this win, the GAMA Cendekia team hoped it would serve a good start to the future that can motivate the team and other students of UGM to also make achievements.
