Dean of UGM Vocational School, Wikan Sakarinto, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., has asked that graduates of the School would not just have the transcript and certificates of graduation, but also certificate of competence.
To be able to graduate, the students need to have a TOEFL scores of 450.
Wikan said on Wednesday (29/3) during the signing of cooperation agreement between the School and PT. Triputra Agro Persada.
According to Wikan, the School aimed at establishing competence. Apart from GPA, command of soft skilsl, leadership, problem solving, English, presentation skill, critical thinking, and creativity are very much needed.
The cooperation between UGM Vocational School and PT Triputra Agro Persada is on apprenticeship.
Sutedjo Halim, Director of PT Triputra Agro Persada, said the cooperation served as an opportunity to link and match, because the cooperation would help many people that find it hard to get a job.
“The link and match is often called as supply and demand. Presently, there are many schools, but there also many people that find it hard to get a job,” he said.
Sutedjo Halim said having good academic grades would not guarantee a graduate would work well. Thus, soft skill command, such as English, was required.
“Progress cannot be withheld, so we need to refresh ourselves to elevate us. If not, we would get drowned. For example, now we need to master English because we are often invited to international forums,” he said.
After the agreement signing, an executive sharing event was done by PT Triputra Agro Persada, followed by recruitment of students from study programme of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Heavy Equipment Maintenance, and Agroindustry.
