UGM delegates have successfully brought home 15 medals from the National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Olympiad (ON MIPA), lasting from 4-7 May at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, East Java.
In the prestigious competition, UGM delegates won 2 gold medals, 3 silvers, 6 bronze medals, and 4 honorable mentions.
UGM Head of Student Creativity Sub-directorate, Suherman, S.Si. M.Sc. Ph.D., said in the ON MIPA 2018, UGM sent 25 students for four categories of competition, who are 7 students for math category, 7 students for chemistry, 6 students for physics, and 5 students for biology.
They had previously gone through a selection internally at UGM and regionally at Central Java-Yogyakarta. They were then given intensive training ahead of the regional and national competitions.
“We were proud of the success of the UGM contingent in the ON MIPA event this time,” he said when contacted on Monday (7/5).
Those achievements were not apart from the spirit and hard work of all delegates of ON MIPA UGM in addition to lecturers, and fellow students.
The medals earned by UGM are as follows: gold for Alzimna Badril Umam in math and Yafi Surya Permana in chemistry. Silver medals went to Resita Sri Wahyuni and Muhammad Ihsan in math and Roihan Mohammad Iqbal in biology. Bronze medals were earned by Rizky Ananda, Juhri Hendrawan and Anugrah Yoga Pratama in physics, Adryan Wiradinata in math, Azzahra Assyifa in biology, and Hendra in chemistry.
Meanwhile, Honorable Mention (HM) was won by Arifin Achmad and Aziz Albar in physics, Regina Rachel Gunawan and Wahyuda Nuzul Fahmi in chemistry.
ON-MIPA event is an annual olympiad organised by Directorate General for Learning and Student Affairs in Research, Technology, and Higher Education Ministry. It started in 2009 in four categories of competition, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. This year as many as 256 students joined it from across Indonesia.
