Recently there has been a rampant growth of cleaning services, especially laundry service. In fact, the expansion of laundry service has entered the internet.
People use the laundry service because it is affordable, hassle-free, and practical. Unfortunately, the service has been using detergents as its cleaning agent all this time. In reality, detergents are known to contain chemicals that may damage the environment.
Considering its damaging effects, five UGM students consisting of Herman Amrullah, Naufal Muflih, Aulia Rizki, Ahmad Abrar, and Ensi Saraswati presented the Most Valuable Powder (MVP) as a substitute for detergents. MVP is a cleaning product with the same function as detergent, but safer for the environment.
“MVP is an all-purpose powder made from natural ingredients, such as baking soda, activated tea, citric acid, cooking salt, clove powder, and fragrance powder that eliminates bad odor, gives nice smell, removes more dirt, kills bacteria, fungi, and insects (mites),” said Herman Amrullah at UGM, Friday (6/29).
As an eco-friendly product, Herman explained, Most Valuable Powder in its production uses wastes as its main ingredients, which is tea waste. Tea waste is obtained from local food stalls around the UGM compound.
“We chose food stalls as our supplier because this is a popular place for students to eat and hang out while ordering tea, so we can find many tea wastes,” he said.
According to Herman, MVP is safe for the environment because it uses natural ingredients. The ingredients consist of affordable and easily obtained natural ingredients, without any addition of synthetic chemicals.
In addition, MVP can be used to clean various furniture as well as personal and household need, including sofas, rugs, towels, shoes, clothes, and so on. The product is expected to become a versatile cleaning agent, safe for health and the environment.
“In the meantime, the product is available online and offline. For online purchases, it is available on the Instagram account @mvp_ugm, Line account and Tokopedia. For offline purchases, it is available at UGM Sunday Morning market. In the future, MVP will be marketed through more social media, online shops, and some events,” he concluded.
