Bimasakti Racing Team UGM has won third place in Business Presentation Category in the Formula Student SAE Japan from 4-8 September 2018.
Bimasakti smart car also earned JAMA Chairman Award for completing all phases of the competition without penalties. In addition, Bimasakti entered the Top 10 in Skid Pad Event.
“As a supervising lecturer, we were delighted with the achievement of the Bimasakti car this time, because it is right on the target,” said Fauzun, Ph.D., on Sunday (9/9).
According to Fauzun, those were the first awards after participating for seven times in the Japanese Student Formula. These were also proofs of the hard work of the team for one year. “I hope this would inspire the team to keep making achievement,” he said.
Meanwhile, Fajar Fitrahadi Danda, team captain, said this car was one along with 5 other university cars that represented Indonesia, competing against 98 international teams.
According to Fajar, in the first day all had to do Technical Inspection. But due to a typhoon that hit Japan, not all could finish the job. This had prevented Bimasakti from a quick inspection. On the second day, Bimasakti devised a strategy to get four inspection stickers to go through to the Dynamic Events. Their strategy earned them three of the four.
“The first sticker sent them passing the Scrutineering, followed by capability testing of the driver (Driver Egress). Here the driver had to be able to get out of the car at a maximum of 5 seconds. Driver Adrianus Prabowo made it impressively in just 3.02 seconds,” said Fajar.
Next, they underwent the Tilt and Weight test. The BM-7 car ranked the 10 light cars with its 203 kg of weight. The third sticker, Noise test, had been earned by the team, too. But they failed the Brake Test due to the occurring weather. Besides, all teams were challenged to take part in design process and manufacture and assembly costs for their cars. In addition, there was a Business Presentation, where Nadia and Bilan presented their ideas to develop the car manufacture in industrial scale.
For the Acceleration Event, Rifqi Dwantara (driver) finished in 6.359 seconds. In Skid Pad Event, Made Bilan made the record in 5.134 seconds that sent the Bimasakti team to the Big 10. On the same day, they went for the qualification for Endurance Event to join Autocross Event.
Their third driver, Hanif Adyatma, completed the second lap in 1 minute and 2 seconds, sending them through to the Endurance Event.
“Here the car had to complete 20 laps by two drivers whose total time would be accounted to determine the best team. Finally, Bimasakti successfully finished the Endurance Event with best lap in 1 minute and 12 seconds, or the fastest among all cars from Indonesia,” he concluded.
