QS World University by Subject 2020 has released list rankings, and it positioned UGM in the first place in Indonesia for six discipline of studies. They are Arts and Humanities, Geography, Business, and Management Studies, Development Studies, Law, and Sociology.
Besides, UGM also includes the 100 top globals for Development Studies, and the top 200 for Agriculture and Forestry, Modern Languages, Geography, and Sociology area.
“We got position on the 51-100 top global for the Development Studies. Additionally, we have an enhancement in other disciplines,” said UGM Vice Chancellor for Research and Community Service, drg. Ika Dewi Ana, M. Kes., Ph.D. on Thursday (5/3).
QS listed the ranking based on the primary four criteria; they are academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper, also H-index.
There are two different surveys to determine reputation. First is academics around the world conducted surveys used for assessment of academic reputation. On the other hand, recipients of work in various sectors and industries needed to fill the surveys for the evaluation of employer reputation.
Meanwhile, citations per paper calculate the average number of citations obtained in each publication, and the H-index is an index that estimates the productivity and impact of publication results from academics.
There were ten disciplines assessed in the previous year, and nine of them have a significant increase. In the field of Engineering & Technology, for example, UGM ranks rose from 392 to 355 in the world, while for the Social Sciences field, UGM has uplifted its position from 327 to 266 in the world.
This year, seven new disciplines get an assessment in 2020, they are Arts & Humanities, Biological Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Law, Modern Languages, Sociology, and Development Studies, which directly occupy the top 100 positions in the world.
“Although we have just released new disciplines this year, those get assessments and reach the top 100 and the top 200, that’s a pretty impressive result,” said the Head of UGM Quality Assurance Office (KJM), Prof. Dr. Indra Wijaya Kusuma, M.B.A.
