UGM student team from Geological Engineering accomplished in winning second place in the GGC UI 2020 Geothermal Case Study Competition. The UGM Geological Engineering student team consisted of Faturohman Nurul Huda, Febrian Fadila Rizky, and M Aji Wiyuda.
The UGM Geological Engineering student team formed based on the results of internal selection by the UGM Geoscience Community. UGM Geological Engineering students in this competition must compete with 17 teams from various universities in Indonesia.
These various universities consist of Pertamina University, Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Padjajaran, Universitas Diponegoro, Universitas Pembangunan Negeri Veteran Yogyakarta, Institut Teknologi Bandung and Universitas Gadjah Mada as well.
“In general, this competition has two stages, which are on the first day of March 14, 2020, is the stage of giving and explaining case studies and working on the report. The second day of March 15, 2020, is the presentation stage before the judges,” said Febrian Fadila Rizky, at UGM on Friday (20/3).
Febrian explained the Department of Geological Engineering FT UGM in this competition sent two teams of student delegations in the Geothermal Case Study Competition (GCS). Geosciences Student Association of Universitas Indonesia held this competition for three days, 13-15 March 2020.
“The competition held at the Universitas Indonesia at FMIPA Campus, precisely in Building A, majoring in S1 Geological & S1 Geophysics. “This championship is part of a collection of competitions integrated with the Universitas Indonesia 2020 Geoscience Competition,” he said.
As the team leader, Febrian explained that this competition had its challenges. Many unexpected things emerged in this competition. One of those is expectations on the output of case studies that did not resemble the preparation.
“Even so, the teamwork and debriefing before the competition given by the Geological Engineering Lecturer who is an expert in geothermal fields, Ir. Pri Utami, M.Sc., Ph.D., successfully helps the team to give the best,” he explained.
All UGM Final Geoquiz Competition
Meanwhile, in another category, the UGM Geoquiz Competition was also unbeaten until the All UGM Final. In the Geoquiz Competition, the UGM Team, under the guidance of Fahmi Hakim divided into two teams, named the Charnokite Team consisting of Alse Nabilah, Cecilia Jatu, and Erma Kumala and the Yellow Palm Team consisting of M. Fahmi Firmansah, Wahyu Ardiansyah Nugraha, and Candra Arief Mahardika.
Candra Arief Mahardika representing the team, stated that the Geoquiz Competition held at the Universitas Indonesia’s Geophysics and Geological Department Campus carried out in 4 rounds. They are the elimination round, quarterfinal round, semifinal round, and final round. On the first day, March 13, 2020, there was a Technical Meeting and a group draw, and the second day was the elimination round, which was the stage of the competition to determine which teams were in the upper bracket and lower bracket.
“Continued quarter-finals and the third day was the semifinals and finals. UGM achieved in the making the all UGM Final, the final brought two teams together from UGM,” said Candra.
Candra explained that although the preparation of the competition was relatively short and had to share time with lectures, the UGM Team was still determined to get the best results. Chandra said the primary key to success this time lies in teamwork and communication.
“Cooperation and communication are the main keys in this Geoquiz Competition,” he added.
