UGM is ranked in the top 50 in the world, according to Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking on the seven criteria of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
THE Impact Ranking measures and captures the impact or role of universities in the world on society through the seventeen SDGs indicators, which are an agreement of 193 member states of the United Nations established in 2015 in improving the welfare of the global community.
“UGM remains committed to always be at the forefront of community service. We want to ensure that besides having a positive impact on society, what UGM has done has high visibility in the eyes of the world, “said the UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M. Eng., D. Eng, IPU, ASEAN Eng. on Wednesday (4/22).
According to Panut, THE Impact Ranking this year was attended by 766 prestigious institutions throughout the world. In the overall assessment this year, UGM ranked 72 in the world. This event is an improvement from last year’s position from number 101-200, and currently, UGM is at the top 50 in the world based on one of the SDGs indicators.
UGM ranks 16th in the world for Zero Hunger, 24th in the Partnership for the Goals indicator, 25th in the world for No Poverty indicators, and 26th in the world for the indicator for Mainland Ecosystems (Life on Land). “UGM’s responsibilities will become heavier after becoming PT 16 of the world SDGs,” he said.
Besides, for the Clean Water and Sanitation indicator, UGM ranks 34th in the world, the Decent Work and Economic Growth indicator rank 41st in the world. For the Reduced Inequalities indicator, it ranks 49th in the world.
“UGM has consistently carried out its mandate, which is to work for humanity and national development through Tridarma to achieve these sustainable development goals since it was established. It’s just that, there are still many things that need to be improved so that the community can feel the impact,” explained the Deputy Rector of UGM for Research and Community Service, drg. Ika Dewi Ana, M. Kes., Ph.D.
In addition to the seven SDGs, UGM also ranks 51-100 in the world for 5 SDGs, 101-200 for the 2 SDGs, and 201-300 for the other three SDGs. Ika added, ongoing efforts must be maintained and continuously improved so that UGM can run Tridarma tertiary institutions, namely teaching, research, and community service more optimally.
“We need to continuously develop planning, implementing, measuring, collecting data, and documenting campus activities to find out what we are doing is right and being a good source of learning,” she continued.
