In order to promote tolerance, diversity, and religious freedom in Indonesia by fostering the ideology of Pancasila, the Pancasila Ideology Development Board collaborates with Universitas Gadjah Mada, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, and INFID (International NGO Forum on Indonesian Development). Through this collaboration, it aims to produce knowledge through qualitative and quantitative research and studies to provide an excellent education in knowledge development and problem-solving.
The cooperation also aims to support the strengthening of Islamic religious education teachers’ capacity to advance tolerant and inclusive Islamic religious education, strengthen the position of Islamic religious lecturers in State and Private Universities to improve tolerant and inclusive Islamic religious education.
The Head of the Pancasila Ideology Development Board (BPIP), Prof. Drs. K.H. Yudian Wahyudi, MA., Ph.D., UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M. Eng., D. Eng., IPU, ASEAN. Eng and Acting Chancellor of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Dr. Phil Sahiron, M.A have signed this cooperation form at UGM Hall on Saturday afternoon (6/13).
Yudian Wahyudi said that during the Covid-19 pandemic crisis, the Pancasila Ideology Development Board (BPIP) through the Directorate of Inter-Institutional Relations and Cooperation, Deputy for Inter-Institutional Relations, Socialization, Communication, and Network was always optimistic in the implementation and earthing of Pancasila in Indonesia. This moment has proven by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between BPIP and Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University (UIN) Yogyakarta, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), and the International NGO Forum on Indonesian Development (INFID).
“This signing is a joint effort of the four institutions to promote tolerance, diversity and religious freedom in Indonesia and utilize, synergize shared capabilities and resources during the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
This collaboration also regulates the matter of organizing an annual forum of tolerance to share knowledge, advance policies, and strengthen networking (peer learning, peer sharing). Besides, to provide assistance and socialization of tolerant areas for the City / Regency Government and various elements of civil society, the implementation of advocacy includes prevention, support, and monitoring in the context of implementing the ideology of Pancasila well as controlling and evaluating the Pancasila ideology.
The Head of BPIP said that this joint agreement is valid for 3 (three) years. The parties will carry out regular and gradual control and evaluation so that continuity will be achieved to accelerate the grounding of Pancasila.
“The output from the signing of this memorandum of understanding by all parties must be embodied with the implementation of concrete/implementation activities,” concluded Yudian.
UGM Chancellor stated that Pancasila, as the Indonesian way of life, must be strengthened and internalized in our society. During the Covid-19 pandemic, it was apparent that Pancasila values implemented in various social activities that could run well.
“How do we see cooperation existed within the community and areas to protect the town or region. All procedures are carried out well in the communities. We can see the high level of mutual assistance in the large number of social funds collected from various ways of collecting social funds, and the funds collected are then seconded to those affected by Covid-19,” he said.
Likewise, the religious leaders of any religion, the Chancellor has suggested to better have pray and quiet worship at home for the good. Thus, according to him, examples that show the values of Pancasila grow in Indonesian society.
“However, not all are optimal or very good at implementing the values of Pancasila. Yet, there are still sides that need to be strengthened and internalized in the community. For example, whether the regulations made by the central or regional government based on the values of Pancasila. Or do private companies in running their business already run businesses based on practical guidelines based on Pancasila values. I reckon, inevitably, there is still much that we must strengthen and internalize within the community,” he said.
Meanwhile, Acting Chancellor of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Dr. Phil Sahiron, M.A., hopes that he and other people could immediately implement the signed cooperation. Furthermore, he always agreed to support Pancasila during challenges.
“There are still groups who wish to replace the ideology of the nation with other ideologies based on religion or whatever,” he said.
