UGM delegation has successfully achieved ten medals from the 2020 National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Competition (KN MIPA).
Based on the announcement in National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) on Thursday (10/9) night, UGM earned ten medals from the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. The ten medals consist of two golds, four silvers, and four bronzes.
“We are highly grateful for due to this achievement. We have an improvement in medal achievement compared to last year. Congratulations to the KNMIPA student team and the supervising lecturers/trainers who are remarkable in preparing the KNMIPA contingent online due to this pandemic. Once again, congratulations,” said the Head of Sub-Directorate for the Field of Student Creativity, UGM Directorate of Student Affairs, Dr. Suherman, on Friday (11/9).
Suherman said that in the competition, UGM sent 11 students in which 10 of them won medals.
Waffiq Maaroja (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) won gold medals and Satria Widyanto (Faculty of Engineering) in physics. Meanwhile, Rayhan Alghiffari Azizi (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences), Gusti Putu Surya Govinda Atmaja (Faculty of Engineering) won the silver medal in physics, and Zayyani Trianti Fatmasari (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and Muh Al Farizi (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) in chemistry.
Next, a bronze medal was won by Muhammad Fadlan (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and I Komang Sadhu Gunawan (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) in mathematics. Then, Stefen Rusli (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) in chemistry and I Gusti Made Raka A.A (Faculty of Biology) in biology.
These achievements also brought UGM to the 3rd position in General Champion. Meanwhile, ITB and UI won first and second place, respectively.
Suherman added that three UGM students who won medals in mathematics had a chance to participate in the national level selection. Later they will be selected again to represent Indonesia in the International Mathematics Competition (IMC) 2020.
The MIPA National Competition is an annual national competition organized by the Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs (Dirjen Belmawa) of the Ministry of Education and Culture that is beforehand named ON MIPA. There are competitions in the four fields, namely mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology, attended by hundreds of students from various universities in Indonesia. In this competition, 12 gold medals, 20 silver medals, 28 bronze medals, and other 12 honorable mentions were also earned.
