UGM Chancellor, namely, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng., said the mosque’s construction on campus was not only a form of worship place, but it is also a center for developing student character education. “UGM dedicates to educate its students not only in the knowledge, but we must provide character education so that children will have a high attitude of nationalism and embrace the country by implementing their respective religious value,” said the UGM Chancellor at the inauguration of the mosque groundbreaking renovation construction at the UGM Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) on Monday (21/9).
According to him, this attestation of the country’s embrace and the spirit of nationalism must be developed among students, not only in college but also in various calming religious lecture activities. “The religious lecture is so soothing, logical and interesting, so it permeates the hearts of our students,” he said
As the Dean of UGM FMIPA, Prof. Dr. Triyono, S.U., said that the construction of the mosque intended to meet the need for a place of worship for the academic community of UGM FMIPA. “There is also an increasing number of congregations because the South and North MIPA campuses have been combined so that a mosque was built to provide a more comfortable place of worship,” he said.
He also hoped that this construction of a mosque in the middle of the FMIPA campus could later make lecturers and students more comfortable carrying out worship and further encourage them to gain more achievements both for students and lecturers in boasting UGM FMIPA. “We hope that they are able to worship and carry out their spiritual obligation more comfortably, students will have gained more achievement and lecturers play a more important role in the advancement of Mathematics and Natural Sciences,” he said.
The mosque renovation’s symbolic inauguration was signed by laying the first stone by the Chancellor, Dean of FMIPA, and Chairman of the Mosque Construction Committee, Prof. Dr. Chairil Anwar. The renovation construction of the two-story type mosque is estimated to be completed later by the end of December. The building development cost of this mosque, which can accommodate 800 worshipers at once, is Rp4.1 billion.
