Reactics Janaka (part of UGM Reactics Chem-E-Car team) has claimed the top prize at the 2022 Malaysia Chem-E-Car Competition organized by the Institution of Engineers Malaysia. The final presentation and winner announcement took place in person at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center.
Reactics Janaka Head Yehezkiel Marco Nathanael said the team faced competition from students from Malaysia to Australia, including local rival Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, Monash University, University of Nottingham Malaysia, University of Malaya, and Taylor’s University.
“This year, Universitas Gadjah Mada represents Indonesia through Reactics Janaka,” said Marco on Monday (15/8).
In this competition, students are challenged to design a shoebox-sized car that operates by chemical energy source. The car is tasked with carrying a certain load of water over a certain distance, hitting a ball or bowling pin, and stopping autonomously.
The ten teams shortlisted for the final round must present their creation before the attendees of the 19th APCChE (Asian Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering) conference.
Marco added that Reactics Janaka emphasized three key aspects, environment, safety, and design effectiveness, in their automobile design. The jury also praised the team for their well-explained car strategy to conclude the task.
“This victory is possible thanks to the help and support of the entire UGM Reactics Chem-E-Car squad, all parties involved, and sponsors, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia, Solusi Bangun Indonesia, and Kaltim Methanol Industri,” said Marco.
