Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has been named the second most prolific organization in publishing articles for The Conversation Indonesia in 2022.
Authors from UGM have posted a total of 55 articles during 2022 for The Conversation Indonesia, coming in second behind Universitas Indonesia with 79 articles and above the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) with 45 articles. The award was presented to UGM at the 2022 Authors of the Year Awards in December 2022.
“This nomination (most productive organization) is new this year, and the goal is to encourage people to write. Currently, interest in writing is declining, especially in scientific writing. As an institution, we are also responsible for encouraging that,” said Ika Krismantari, The Conversation Chief Editor/Content Director, Saturday (25/3).
The Conversation Indonesia is part of The Conversation’s global network that has been present in various countries. Since its establishment in 2017, The Conversation has produced critical articles on national and international issues. Each writer must be part of a particular institution to maintain the article’s credibility.
“To be a writer for The Conversation, you must be affiliated with certain institutions. Not only is the goal to get issues quickly but also to get interesting viewpoints from the writer,” Ika added.
The substance of criticism on issues such as government policies, health, education discourse, and others often appears on The Conversation Indonesia channel. At first glance, it looks like any other media channel. However, The Conversation writers have their own characteristics, such as the courage to express their opinions, the depth of research, and the variety of exciting perspectives.
“We plan to continue organizing categories like this in the future. We also need to motivate institutions to allow more and more critical and good writings to be released to the public so that later all writings are credible,” said Ika.
