Yogya (KU)-Prof. Ir. Fransiskus Soesianto Poerwosoehardjo, B.Sc., Ph.D., a retired lecturer of Faculty of Engineering Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and the professor of Atmajaya University of Yogyakarta (UAJY) passed away on Saturday (17/4) at 07.00 am in Panti Rapih Hospital, Yogyakarta, aged 69.
The man born in Ambarawa, 11 May 1940, was to be buried on Sunday (18/4) at 13.30 pm in Sawitsari UGM Family Graveyard after being laid to rest in his house in Pogung Baru C-9, Sleman. Previously, the professor was laid at Atma Jaya University to be given last respect.
Soesianto was known as lecturer of Electrical Engineering UGM since 1965. After retiring from UGM in 2005, he was inaugurated as permanent lecturer of Faculty of Industrial Technology UAJY. During his life, the Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science from University of Essex, 1991, became Director of Center for Computer UGM, 1977-1982, and Manager of Electrical Engineering Graduate Program UGM, 1995-2004. At the end of his life, he was Chairman of Academic Senate of Faculty of Industrial Technology UAJY, 2007-2010.
Prof. Soesianto was known as friendly and humorist person, a favorite lecturer who was respected by his students. “Soesianto always smiled and he gave lectures in an interesting manner, giving encouragement to his students. He suggested his students to develop technology for people,†said UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M.Eng, Ph.D., as one of Prof. Soesianto’s students, speaking at UAJY.
Sudjarwadi said that when he was junior lecturer, Prof. Soesianto was already a senior lecturer in Faculty of Engineering. Sudjarwadi was proud that Prof. Soesianto finally gained the title of professor, in spite of the fact that it was gained after retirement from UGM. “He gave contribution for UGM for a long time. I was thankful that at Atmajaya he successfully gained the professorship. His ideal as an academician came true,†said the Rector.
UAJY Rector, Ir. A. Koesmargono, M.CM.,Ph.D., and Chairman of Slamet Riyadi Foundation of Yogyakarta, Prof. Ir. Y. Marsono, M,Sc., also delivered their remarks.
