The Earth Day that falls on 22 April is commemorated by many people in many ways. One of them is the “No Vehicle on Earth Day†event held by KPALH (Nature and Environment Lovers Community ) Setrajana group of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM. According to Maria Shelly Putri, chair of committee, KPALH Setrajana as one of organizations that deals with environmental issues offers option for their students to participate by saving the Earth from global warming during the one-day movement, encouraging students not to ride motor vehicles that day.
"Actually, the suggestion of “No Vehicle on Earth Day†is a suggestion for people to care about the Earth’s condition that is worsening. Moreover, there are more emission gases from vehicles, increasing the temperature and depriving other people’s right to get fresh air,†said Maria on campus, Thursday (22/4). She emphasized that the suggestion is not a must, but students of the Faculty are encouraged to support the movement. She added that UGM academic community’s sensibility and awarenes are also expected to support the green transportation effort.
