The high prevalences of accidents and diseases at work are a common problem and concern. These call for the real implementation of Work Safety and Health Management System (SMK3) in many places. Thus was said by Ir. Amri A.K., M.M., Head of Norms on Work Environment Sub-directorate in the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration during the National Conference on Applied Ergonomics (CAE 2010) event. It was a cooperation between UGM Mechanical and Industrial Engineering department and the Ministry that was held on Wednesday (12/5) at UGM’s University Club.
According to Amri, the high prevalence is caused by the low implementation of K3 and K3 testing. "Also, it is caused by the low monitoring quantity and quality and the object of monitoring that has grown more complex," he said.
In Amri’s opinion, the various implementations of K3 norms aim to protect the manpower and other people at work. In addition, they are expected to guarantee the safe and efficient use of sources of production. "Other purposes are to realize optimal productivity. The outcome is smooth production process, increased productivity and prosperity," Amri explained.
Mentioning Law No. 1 Year 1970, the target of K3 is to prevent accidents, fires, explosions, work-related disease, pollution, and so on. All of those are expected to bring the accident level to zero. "The real result is to minimise loss risk," he explained.
Amri added that SMK3Â is part of the overall management system, covering organisational structure, planning, responsibility, procedure, process, and resources required for the development of implementation, achievement, study and maintenance of work safety and health policy for work-related risk control. Those will be useful for the creation of safe, eficient, and productive work station.
