Alumni and students of UGM joining the Generasi Cerdas Mandiri (GCM) Ednovation group were able to create mobile learning. They have been able to make cellular phones previously used for texting, telephoning, or browsing the Internet a full learning tool that contains all lessons given in junior and senior high schools.
Saevul Amri, Manager of Generasi Cerdas Mandiri (GCM) Ednovation group, said that with the innovation, all materials, exercises, examples of exercises, and modern try-out are included in one phone. The display is adjusted to the width of the phone screen.

Mobile learning application was developed using Java-based program, and after the installation, lesson materials can be integrated into the phone. “It will only need Internet connection when first installing the program. Afterwards, it can be operated without such connection. This program can be used for all kinds of cellphones, including those from China,†he said on Monday (24/5).
Saevul said further that with the innovation, students can learn anywhere anytime using their favourite gadget. Their study time can also increase, while for teachers, this innovation can help them deliver lessons and moral values. Besides, it can also help the Government’s efforts in creating quality education that is affordable by all members of the community.
The work of Rio Winanda Tandjung (alumnus of Nuclear Engineering), Ida Bagus Gede Dwidasmara (alumnus of Computer science), Saevul Amri (Faculty of Biology’s student), Hanni Puspita (student of Faculty of Maths and Natural Sciences), Sutarman (alumnus of Medicine Faculty), Agung Baskoro (student of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences), and Aspian Noor (student of Faculty of Geography) was specially appreciated by Andi Alfian Mallarangeng, Minister for Youths and Sports. The launching of the innovation was made an official schedule of the Ministry on 7 May in commemoration of the National Education Day at the Wisma Menpora Hall, Jakarta.
The finding was recorded in the MURI record, GCM is the first educational institution that makes mobile learning program, using cellphones as learning media without internet connection, which is full and free for all Indonesian students. The award was presented on 22 May in Grha Sabha Pramana, UGM.
