The State-Owned Electricity Company (PT PLN) this year requires 2,604 new employees, who are fresh graduates of all disciplines, to work there. For year 2011, the company will recruit as many as 3,000 new employees.
Deputy Manager for Human Resources Development of PLN for Central Java and Yogyakarta, Drs. "Besides, many of our staff will retire this year," he said on Tuesday (25/5), after selecting new students in Diploma Program of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering UGM through the Excellent Talents Scouting program, who will be projected to become PT PLN’s staff.
To meet the need of new staff, Bayu Widiarto said that PT PLN established a partnership with four universities on Java (Universitas Gadjah Mada/UGM, Universitas Negeri Sebelas Maret/UNS, Universitas Diponegoro/Undip, and Politeknik Negeri Semarang/Polines). "Today it is the realisation day of the cooperation between UGM and PT PLN through the selection done in D-3 program of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering," he added.
He explained that those who pass the test will pay the tuiton by themselves. After graduation, they will be recruited by PT PLN to undergo the Pre-Job Training for one year and, after that, they will be appointed PT PLN’s staff. "Selection is conducted by us and UGM. The cost is paid by the students but they have the chance to become PLN staff." Â
This program is opened for academic year 2010/2011. For the first batch, UGM has a quota of 100 students from two majors. Undip also has a quota of 100 students, Polines 48. "UNS is not doing it this year, maybe next year," he added.
Bayu said that PLN was making organisational restructuring for efficiency. But it will not affect the requirement for their new human resources. PT PLN takes another step in recruiting staff through the job fair as the one already done with the Engineering Career Center (ECC) in the UGM Faculty of Engineering. They also open co-operation program for third semester students to go on apprenticeship in the company for six months. "They are given an allowance amounting to Rp850,000 per month," he said.
Radhian Krisnaputra, S.T., M.Eng., Deputy Head of the Diploma Program said that the selection is done through two ways, Excellent Talents Program and Written Test. "Preliminary test is conducted in two ways, later they will be re-selected by PLN," he explained.
According to Radhian, every year the D-3 Electrical Engineering admits 200 new students and Mechanical Engineering 240. Of those numbers, 50 students will be admitted to PLN-UGM partnership in D-3 Mechanical Engineering and another 50 in D-3 Electrical Engineering . "We’re responsible for selecting the talents, and PLN will do the selection and recruitment," he concluded.
