The following was the dialogue that occurred on Monday morning, 31 May 2010 between Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M.Eng., Ph.D., and Sarjimin, a gardener of UGM Library.
“Where do you pile up this trash?” asked the Rector.
“I pile it up at the west garden at the left part of the building,” said Sarjimin.
“Do you pile soil into the trash?” asked the Rector.
“Yes, Sir,” said Sarjimin.
The Rector looked relieved upon the answer. Then, he shook Sarjimin’s hand. Looking hesitant, Sarjimin shook hand wit the Rector. The handshake possibly expressed the Rector’s gratitude because Sarjimin helped UGM’s call for not burning trash.
There is plenty of waste in the compound. Everyday he collects 3 carts of dry leaves plus plastic, paper and glass waste. He hoped to be able to cooperate with UGM Administration Office and Household in managing the trash in the future. “I am waiting for routine waste collection,” said the man born in Sleman, 21 February 1971.
