YOGYA (KU)- As many as 200 students, antenna community members, antena producers and ORARI members, participated in the third National Techno Antenna Fair 2010 initiated by Physics Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) on Saturday (5/6). The opening was launched at the Plaza KPTU of Engineering Faculty, marked by the release of baloons and simulation of antena competition.
Secretary of Physics Engineering, Dr. Ahmad Agus Setiawan, in his speech said that he welcomed the competition on the campus. It is believed to help increase student’s interest. “Obviously, student’s innovation and interest will increase. Philosophically, antenna can help increase national unity,” Agus said.
Head of ORARI Yogyakarta, Bagus Riyanto Baliardi, added that this competition would increase the insight of ORARI members who still rely on antenna’s strength in terms of power rather than the sicence. “We can learn the scientific part of this event. We made mistakes because we positioned antenna due to its power, not quality,” Bagus said.
Deputy Dean for Research, Student Affairs and Cooperation of the Faculty, Prof. Jamasri, Ph.D., hoped that the competition would encourage the students to apply their knowledge well. He further hoped that the national antenna competition can go national under the Dikti, such as the Indonesian Robot Contest.
Coordinator of the event, Prof. Ir. Sunarno, M.Eng., Ph.D., said that this event was divided into two categories: antenna omni-directional and antenna directional categories. “We have three winners of each category. Participants came from Jakarta, Klaten, Surabaya , Temanggung, etc,” Sunarno said. He added that the the people’s and students’ attention to antenna is getting bigger, but the media to develop it are lacking. Antenna is an important factor in transmitting information, using electromagnetic waves. “The antenna should be good to transmit information well. The characteristics are: it works on the required frequency, has big gain, impedance of 50 ohm (75 ohm for TV antenna ), reactant is zero, SWR <1,5, marketable, effektive, and efficient. Other activities held are MoU signing between ORARI and the Faculty, bazaar, and exhibitions, and food stalls.
