We should take legal protection steps for various works which are digitally documented. Various steps are necessary to be taken because when using the Internet, someone should be aware that he is disseminating information to many people. "We should also consider about the protection if the document is going to be used limitedly," said Drs. Bambang Nurcahyo Prastowo, M.Sc., Head of Center for Information and Communication Technology Services UGM.
His statement was delivered in the National Seminar on Network System Security & Data Communication, held at UGM University Club, Tuesday (15/6). In a seminar organized by the Center, Bambang Prastowo reminded people about the need for awareness campaign, the importance of completing digital materials, such as documents, works of art, works of computer programs, with meta data authorship or copyright. This needs to be socialized and disseminated more vigorously. Bambang said that data leakage can occur when Internet users do not have appropriate protectors.
Therefore, on the needs of exchanging data and information, there are some important things to note. It will be very appropriate for the operator of national data communication systems if it prioritizes the development of basic services for domestic Internet. "The system of Internet services should be taken seriously by the government in the future. Ministry of Communication and Information is the appropriate one to develop it," he said.
UGM Vice Rector of Alumni and Business Development, Prof. Ir. Atyanto Dharoko, M. Phil., Ph.D., highly appreciated this seminar. This activity, which was part of a series of celebrations of the 6th anniversary of the Center, was assessed as giving very important meaning to many people, because ICT infrastructure helps UGM educators and managers’ daily activities on campus. "Information Technology has really given its role to do daily coordination," he said when he was opening the seminar.
In his view, cyberspace communications have supported the work at UGM. In fact, UGM financial systems and reporting are more supported by this technology. "Individually, many people are accustomed to use it," he said, hoping that this information technology can support the achievement of the UGM vision and mission.
M. Saefudin Efendi, Chairman of the Committee of the Anniversary, explained that the Seminar is one of the activities held by CICTS to commemorate the 6th anniversary, which falls on June 19, 2010. Previously, the Install Fest, Migrating Program from Windows to Linux event was attended by 85 people, "We have organized a teleconference with 22 state and private universities throughout Indonesia and the Ministry of Finance," Saefudin said.
