40 Teams Follow Indonesian Rocket Competition 2010YOGYAKARTA- As many as 40 teams from various universities in Indonesia, including Universitas Gadjah Mada, will follow the 3rd Indonesian Rocket Contest (Korindo) 2010 held at Pandansimo Beach, Srandakan, Bantul, from June 26 to 28, 2010. UGM sent its team BATARA BAYU to this competition.
According to one committee member of the contest, who is also lecturer of UGM Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Dr. Jayan Sentanuhady, the theme of competition this year is Homing Meteo Payload, the competition to produce the payload design (rocket cargo). Payload should be able to return or go toward the selected target after separation from the rocket launcher. "Korindo 2010 will be attended by 40 teams selected from various universities in Indonesia," said Jayan at UGM, Friday (25/06/2010).
Jayan explained that the 40 participating teams are the result of selection of the 73 teams that submitted proposals to the committee. Acceptance of proposals was closed on December 30 last year. The teams that have passed the selection process are required to submit progress reports of the proposal design through video images.
Afterwards, Indonesian Rocket Competition 2010 Workshop was held on April 25, 2010 at UGM followed by all participants to introduce rocketry technology, rocket launching, and rocket flight test charge, as well as explanation of the entire agenda of the competition. "For participants who will test the reliability of the design before the functional test, validation installation, and certification, LAPAN are willing to assist in providing test facilities such as g-force, g-shock, and vibration test equipment," he said.
This competition is different from the previous activity that for the first time it will be witnessed by an observer from Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF) who hail from Japan and Malaysia.
Korindo aims to prepare the excellent people who have interest in aerospace technology, especially in rocketry, through means of space education, and to increase the people’s love for aerospace in relation to Indonesian independence in the field of rocketry technology. Countries with good and independent rocket technology are respected by other nations in the world. "Because rocket has a strategic value, both for peaceful and defense purposes, such as rocket launchers that can be used as a satellite launcher to the orbit, weather observer, or as a missile launcher and ballistic missile weapon," Jayan explained.
Jayan said that the judges of the competition consist of five people, Dr. Ing. Agus Nuryanto (Lapan), Dr. Endra Pitowarno (PENS-ITS), Dr. Indrawanto (ITB), Dr. Wahidin Wahab (UI), and Dr. Heru Susanto (UGM).
