A total of 247 graduates of Accounting Profession Education Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, UGM, is inaugurated on Saturday (26/6). The graduation was conducted in Grha Sabha Pramana. Attending the occasion were Prof. Ainun Na’im, Ph.D., Senior Vice Rector for
Administration, Finance, and Human Resources, and B.M Purwanto, M.B.A, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Research, and Community Service.
The graduates this time is the class of the 14th, 15th, and 16th. Since its inception in 2004, the Accounting Profession education UGM has received 1230 students and graduating as many as 910 alumni. "Almost all graduates of Accounting Profession have been serving the business world in particular and society in general," said Head of the Program, Drs. Sugiarto, M.B.A., Ph.D., in his speech.
Sugiarto said that the upcoming year 2011 was a considerably important year, because it is the commencement of the adoption process and convergence of financial accounting standards from FASB which is oriented to American Business Environment into the IFRS which is a more widely adopted in the European Continent.
IFRS Convergence is a strategy to put Indonesia in the financial markets and global capital markets, as well as part of the process of economic development based on transparency and accountability. "Adoption and the convergence of IFRS in line with the demands of the accounting profession, the ones who are professional and entitled to international accounting profession," he explained.
Meanwhile, Prof. Ainun Na’im, Ph.D., in his speech said that the graduation is the first step for an accountant. Most importantly, according to Ainun, is to hold firmly the ethical and moral accounting profession principles when they have a particular position. "Most importantly, an accountant needs to hold firmly the ethical and moral principles in their work," Ainun pointed out.
In addition, the leadership factor must also be developed by an accountant, whether management accountants or auditors, especially that now some cases, such as money laundering, quite attract the public attention. "Cases such as the frequently occurring money laundering are the cases that deserve the attention of the accountant, thus the demands of the profession in the future is more difficult," he added.
From the total of 247 graduates, 104 are male and 143 female, 33 gained cum laude distinction. As many as eight people achieved highest GPA of 4.00. Meanwhile, the lowest GPA is 2.75 and the average of GPA is 3.42. The youngest graduate this time is Sarasmeta Damariyanti (born March 10, 1988) and the oldest is Asmawati (born May 23, 1972).
