Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) strengthened their cooperation with the Kwangon National University of Korea. The implementation of the cooperation can be seen with the holding of symposium with the topic of Research and Development of Animal Science and Industry, Indonesia and Korea, held from June 20 to July 1, 2010. These activities involve 13 professors from Kwangon National University of Korea, led by the Dean of the College of Animal Life Science (CALS), Prof. Lee Sung Ki, Ph.D. "The symposium involved Faculty of Animal Science and the College of Animal Life Science(CALS) Kwangon National University of Korea," said Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science, Prof. Dr. Tri Yuwanta, on Thursday (1/7).
Tri Yuwanta mentioned that this symposium will present keynote speaker, Mr. Lee Sung Bok, president of PT Ceil Jedang Feed Indonesia, a Korean livestock and poultry feed company with its headquarters in Jakarta. The main topic discussed in the symposium is the research and educational development of animal science education in both universities as well as prospects for Korean stockbreeding company in Indonesia. "Research and development of animal science education became one of the main focuses of the symposium," he explained.
Tri Yuwanta said that after the symposium, signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Dean of Faculty of Animal Science and his counterpart will be performed. Some of the points mentioned in the MoU include the exchange of lecturers, joint research, advance study for S-2 and S-3, as well as student internship.
In addition to the symposium, Prof. Jin-Woo Jho, Ph.D. from Kwangon National University also gave a lecture about the development of stockbreeding production and results of meat technology research in Korea. The lecture is attended by S-1, S-2, and S-3 students and several lecturers. The activities concluded with a visit to some farmers around Yogyakarta as well as some tourism destinations.
