Situated at the UGM Principal meeting room on Monday (5/7), Rector Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng., Ph.D. inaugurated Prof. Ir. Suryo Purwono, M.A.Sc., Ph.D. as Vice Director for Academic Affairs, Development and Cooperation of UGM Graduate School. At the same time, the Rector dismissed Prof. Dr. Ir. Edhi Martono, M.Sc. with honor from the position of Vice Director for Academic Affairs, Development and Cooperation of UGM Graduate School and Dr. Abdul Halim, M.B.A., Akt. from the position of Vice Director for Administration. Both officials have devoted their time to the UGM Graduate School beyond the call of duty.
To both officials, the Rector expressed his gratitude and appreciation for all their work over the years. He gave the message that the two officials can bring their experiences gained from the School elsewhere. "I hope they can pass on those experiences to new places as inspirations, as well as to enlighten the environment in whatever task they have," said the Rector.
In the view of the Rector, UGM Graduate School is a strategic element in the effort to become a research university. As a main front, the School, is expected to play a role in guiding, pioneering, and inspiring high-quality research. "The results of the research is expected to give solutions and meet challenges in the community, nation, and humanity," said the Rector.
To sustain the already progressing ideals of the Graduate School, the Rector asked the two officers to open themselves to the required consultations. The Rector’s request is related to the great deal of homework which should be done, including the work that must be completed by the state or government. "The homework in this country is enormous. Although we have been trying to solve problems one by one every day, but the remaining ones are still enormous. Therefore, I hope both of them can communicate with each other by spending their time for consultation," he added.
In the meantime, to the new officers, besides conveying his expectations, the Rector also expressed his gratitude for their willingness to fulfill the duty. Moreover, by becoming part of the UGM organizational structure takes psychological costs and takes much time. "The payoff may sometimes not match the opportunity price that can be obtained outside the campus. However, their willingness hopefully becomes the way to contribute something for the country," said the Rector.
