Trie Utami, who was once a vocalist for Krakatau, a fusion jazz band which was very famous in the late 1980s will enliven the 25 Year Alumni Reunion of Faculty of Psychology UGM on Friday night (9/7). "The plan is that Trie Utami will be the guest star at the outdoor jazz event held by the Faculty of Psychology, tomorrow night," said Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Psychology UGM, Drs. Helly P. Soetjipto, M.A., on Thursday (8/7). Helly said this “free and open to the public” event is one of a series of 25 Year Faculty of Psychology Alumni Reunion events planned to be be held every year starting from 2010. The jazz performance featuring Trie Utami is cooperation between the Alumni with the jazz community of Yogyakarta, which usually performs at Bentara Budaya. "Coincidentally, one of the students of the Faculty of Psychology is also an active member in the jazz community," he said.
Besides the jazz performances, a seminar entitled Developing the Competitive Value of Students will also be held in the morning of the day. Meanwhile, in the afternoon alumni and the lecturers will share experience. It is expected that there will be feedback from the alumni for successsful student learning process. "This activity will produce much input for the lecturers of how lecture and communication with students succeed," said Helly. Some kind of career guidance is expected from the alumni, especially for students who will graduate in the near future, about choosing and finding a job. The guidance from the alumni will be given after the students completed the KKN. With his program, Psychology Faculty alumni are expected not to waste too much time after graduation before getting a job. "Students who have graduated and given the guidance by the alumni will, hopefully, get a job quickly," said Helly.
For this year, the guidance will be given by alumni class of 1985 to 2007. Helly said the number of alumni of the Faculty of Psychology is 5,000 people who are spread in various institutions, whether private or public.
