Commemorating its 61st Anniversary, UGM again holds a research expo. The event under the theme of UGM Research Week 2010 will last for a week from 12 to 17 July, 2010, in Grha Sabha Pramana, Bulaksumur.
In addition, there will also be a dialogue entitled Aspects of Business and Innovation In Industry, workshop and partners gathering, workshops on Training of MSME Patronage, MSME Products Exhibition, seminar and workshop on Local Government Networks for Disaster Risks. Various events aiming to disseminate the results of research and community service for users will also be held.
"UGM Research Week 2010 begins with Open Lecture on Knowledge Partnership, presenting Prof. Guenther Bonn from Austria who will deliver a public lecture entitled Genomics, Proteomics, Metabolomics: Perspectives for the Future, said Prof. Harno Dwi Pranowo on Thursday (9/7) at the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) about the UGM Research Week.
He said that the Research Week is a means for UGM researchers, the industry and community to interact with each other. This is expected to create exchanges of information that will encourage the Government, industry/business players and the community to utilize the results of research and community service conducted by UGM. "The utilization is expected to provide positive impacts on decision and policy making at the level of government, corporate, business and society in daily life," he said.
He hoped there will be increased public interest in the Research Week this year along with UGM research achievements. There were 700 UGM research titles in the year 2009 worth as much as USD 60 billion. This amount was an increase from that in the previous year (2008), which was approximately 450 titles. The Science and Technology Cluster is the largest cluster in conducting researches (35.87%), the second Agro Cluster (34.98%) followed by the Social Humanities Cluster (18.37%) and the Health and Medicine Cluster (10.78%). "Design of research activities in all competitions is mostly funded by the DP2M Directorate of Higher Education. These numbers are the result of research that is managed by LPPM UGM. Beyond that, there are many researches that are administered by faculties," he explained.
Dr. Ria Armunanto who is in charge of open campus and cluster seminars added that 700 titles of research managed by LPPM come from several research schemes, such as early scheme, middle and research results that have reached to the community level.
Most of the researches were conducted by young lecturers, including those who are still studying. Among them are several researches that have run for years. It means that the duration is a year or two years, but there are also cluster researches that reach 20 researches. "The expectation is that this cluster has met people’s needs. Therefore, these researches can be applied," she added.
