Professor Emeritus of Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Ir. Kasumbogo Untung, M.Sc., passed away at the age of 69 years. The man born in Jombang, January 5, 1941 passed away on Thursday, July 22 at 18:00 at Panti Rapih Hospital, Yogyakarta. The husband of Budijatni was buried on Saturday (24/7) at 12:00 in UGM Sawitsari Cemetery after being departed from the mourning home at Pandean III/12, Condong Catur, Depok Sleman. Earlier, the body was reserved at the Hall to get the last respect.
Chairman of the Council of Professors of UGM, Prof. Ir. Suryo Guritno, M., Stats, Ph.D., in his speech representing the UGM academic community said that the loss of Prof. Kasumbogo Untung also means that the higher education, especially in science and agriculture, lost one of their entomology and plant protection senior experts. "The late Professor had been instrumental in contributing his energy and thought to the development of science," Suryo sadly said.
In his eyes, Prof. Kasumbogo was someone who had very strong will, he was meticulous and always encouraged his fellow lecturers and students to be dynamic and innovative. In fact, since 1989, the deceased had been engaged in many national and international fora, one of them was to participate in the International Plant Protection Congress. "Hopefully, his exemplary, magnanimity and contributions can be the example for the next generation, so that the sciences development is sustainable," he said, visibly shaken.
The man who earned his Professorship in the year 1997 left his wife and three children, M. Ratputranto, Rachel Madiana, and Joel Tantyo Laksono. He was known as a lecturer of Plant Pests and Diseases Department, Faculty of Agriculture UGM, since 1963. During his life, this master’s and doctoral degree graduates of Michigan State University in the United States had become the head of entomology lab from 1974-1975, chairman of the Department of Pests and Plant Diseases from 1982-1985, expert staff to the Coordinating Minister for Economy from 1989-1993, Field Assistant to Minister for Environment from 1993-1995, staff of the State Minister for Environment in 1995.
