As the most comprehensive university in Indonesia in terms of the types of science and the number of students and teachers, UGM expects its graduates to be always oriented to the interests and prosperity of the nation as well as towards science and human happiness. It was conveyed by the Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng., Ph.D., in front of 1189 graduates of post-graduate program who are inaugurated at Grha Sabha Pramana on Wednesday (28/7).
"To implement one of its visions, ‘to serve the interests and prosperity of the nation’, UGM continues to strengthen the synergy among all members of the academic community, including the alumni who are members of the KAGAMA (Alumni Association of Universitas of Gadjah Mada)," said the Rector.
In addition, UGM always tries to advocate their local wisdom to the world level so that the Indonesian nation is respected by other great nations in the world. "Recently, UGM won the trust from the World Bank to share knowledge with the community and through local wisdom excellence. The fund is quite large, we will cooperate with provincial governments, local authorities as well as the alumni," he said.
This time a total of 1189 graduates were inaugurated, comprising 1138 graduates in master’s degree, 39 specialist, and 12 doctoral degree. The average time of study is 2 years and 1 month for the S-2, four years and five months for specialist courses, and four years and six months for the S-3. The shortest study time for S-2, which is 1 year, was completed by Yusuf Gumilar Sukma Bhinekas from the Faculty of Engineering majoring in Urban and Regional Planning. At the specialist level, Rusmiyati Wijaya of Clinical Pathology Specialist Program completed her study in one year 11 months; while at S3 level Dewi Ratnasari of Humanities Sciences Study Program Faculty of Cultural Sciences completed her study in two years and six months. S-2 youngest graduate (23 years and 20 days old) is Rachmawati Felani Djuria of Public Health Science Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, earning a master’s degree. The number of graduates in regular S-2 program who earn cum laude distinctions is 178 or 15.64%.
In the meantime, highest Grade Point Average is achieved by Siti Syamsinur of the Accounting Masters Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, who is able to achieve a perfect GPA, 4.00. The same achievement is also made by seven other graduates, thus graduating cum laude; these include: Alin Liana, Faculty of Biology, who completed the study in one year and eight months; Hilda Susiyanti Debora Berek, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, 1 year and nine months; Sari Edi from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, 1 year and eight months; Wawing Walidi, from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, one year and 9 months; Laely Fitria Hidayatiningrum from the Faculty of Engineering, one year and 7 months; Sumini from the Graduate School, 2 years and 9 months, and Budi Santoso from the Graduate School, 1 year and 8 months.
Among the 1189 graduates, there are some influential figures, including the Mayor of Gorontalo, Adhan Dambea from Communication Studies; Honorary Chairman of the Central Board of Indonesian Journalists Association, Tarman Azzam, the Governor of the Naval Academy, First Admiral Hari Bowo, who both graduated from the Graduate School, National Resilience Program. While Bibit Waluyo, Governor of Central Java, was seen sitting with the parents of other graduates. He attended the inauguration of one of her children, Rini Tri Utami, Master of Public Notary, Faculty of Law.
