The total number of UGM’s Professors continue to grow even though some of them have retired. Today UGM releases four professors who has retired and welcomes seven new professors. The four professors who have retired are Prof. Dr. Mammed Sagi, M.S (Faculty of Biology), Prof. Dr. Bambang Djadmo Kertonegoro, M. Sc (Faculty of Agriculture), Prof. Dr. Issirep Sumardi (Faculty of Biology), and Prof. Dr. Ir. Soeparno (Faculty of Animal Science).
In the meantime, the seven UGM new professors are Prof. Dr. Sofia Retnowati, MS (Faculty of Psychology), Prof. Dr. Catur Sugiyanto, MA (Faculty of Economics and Business), Prof. Ir. Henricus Priyosulistyo, M.Sc., Ph.D. (Faculty of Engineering), Prof. Dr. Sudibyakto, M.S. (Faculty of Geography), Prof. Dr. Yuventius Augustinus Nunung Prajarto, M.A. (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences), Prof. Dr. Purwo Santoso, M.A. (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences), and Prof. M. Jufrie, SpA (K), Ph.D (Faculty of Medicine).
In his speech, one of the retired professors, Prof. Dr. Ir.Soeparno, said that during their time as a professor they have strive to contribute to enlighten the nation through UGM. Contributions are given either in the form of teaching, research as well as other community service programs. "We, the retired professors, are trying to contribute to enlighten the nation through UGM. We also still remain ready if needed to help UGM," explained Professor Soeparno in the Introduction of New Professor and professor retirement gathering in the Senate Hall, Tuesday (10/8).
Meanwhile, representing the new professors, Prof. Dr. Sofia Retnowati, says the status of professor is a mandate that have great responsibility. The responsibility to advance the nation’s major and UGM as a research university is one of the challenges for them. "This is not an easy task because of the enormous responsibility of teachers to participate in advancing the nation and the UGM as a research university," said Sofia.
On the other hand, the Chairman of Council of Professors of UGM, Prof. Drs. Suryo Guritno, M. Stats., Ph.D, thanked the retired professors who nevertheless still remain committed to helping and encouraging UGM. As for the new professor, they are expected to perform well given the increasingly heavy responsibilities as a Professor. "UGM thanked the retired professors who are still committed to help while the new professors are expected to be ready with growing responsibilities," said Suryo.
Now, there are 431 professors at UGM, consisting of 276 active professors, 37 emeritus professors, two extraordinary professors and 116 professors who have retired.
The ceremony was followed by exposure on PT BHMN regulatory issues related to the Constitutional Court ruling on the cancellation of BHP Law by Senior Vice Rector for Administration, Finance, and Human Resources, Prof. Ainun Na’im, M.B.A., Ph.D.
The event was also attended by Senior Vice Rector for Education, Research and Community Service, Prof. Dr. Retno S Sudibyo, M. Sc, Apt, and Vice Rector for Alumni Affairs and Business Development, Prof. Ir. Atyanto Dharoko, M. Phil, Ph.D. Previously a minute of silence was conducted to commemorate the passing of two UGM professors, namely Prof. Dr. Ir. Kasumbogo Untung (Faculty of Agriculture) and Prof. Dr. Ir. Prayoto, M. Sc (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) recently.
