A total of 388 students in diploma program – UGM Vocational School receive Education Operational Costs and Education Support scholarships. As many as 309 students receive the Education Operational Costs and 79 receive the Education Support. The scholarship is given symbolically by the UGM Student Affairs Director, Drs. Haryanto, M.Si, to three recipient representatives in the Multi Media Room, third floor of Central Building on Thursday (2/9).
Haryanto conveys that scholarships to diploma program students have not been much considered by scholarship contributing companies. He said, of 50 companies, only eight would channel Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to diploma program. Yet, UGM is still looking for the company that would provide such scholarship funds. "UGM gives attention to vocational schools. We continue to look for scholarships for this program," said Sentot, as he is familiarly called.
He argues that providing scholarships for diploma program is quite profitable for companies in terms of costs due to shorter study time of diploma students than that of undergraduate students. "The study time is shorter and the expenditures are significantly less," he added.
In front of the scholarship recipients, Sentot asked that they should use the scholarship funds to support academic achievement. Wisya Rizky Madithiarif, one of scholarship recipients, says that the scholarships, can be utilized later to improve academic achievement. "It’s beneficial for us all and it can improve academic performance of each of us," he said.
