The celebration of the 55th Anniversary or Lustrum XI of Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) happened to be quite lively. This celebration is held in a special way because this time it has the interest and great attention to the environment and climate change. The theme of the celebration is Taking Nature Into Account.
The Lustrum XI series was opened with an international seminar with the theme "Towards Enhancement of Economic, Social, Technological, and Environmental Development for Welfare Implications in the Asia-Pacific" in Jogjakarta Plaza Hotel, 2-3 August 2010. The students took the initiative to hold a Student Week, including entrepreneurial bazaar activity, Econolympic sporting event, research exhibition and journalistic activities (essay competition and photography exhibition). "This event is held the whole week on campus, 20 to 25 September 2010," Dr. A. Tony Prasetiantono, Chairman of the Committee, said.
In relation with the academic activities, the committee held a national seminar to study Indonesian economy in macro, fiscal, and micro perspectives. This seminar featured speakers from among the ‘inner circle’, the Faculty alumni and lecturers. It will be held on Thursday, September 23, 2010, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Yogyakarta. After the discussions, at the evening wayang performances will be presented with the play "Semar Mbangun Kahyangan" by leading puppeteer, Ki Anom Suroto. The performance that reflects the commitment towards traditional art will take place at the Hall of UGM.
Meanwhile, to commemorate the founders and lecturers who have passed away, organizers are planning to do pilgrimage to the Sawitsari UGM graveyard and several other graveyards on Friday, September 24, 2010. "The Faculty can not stand firm as we see today without their struggles," Tony said.
The activities will continue on Saturday, September 25, 2010, in the form of workshop aimed to distinguish how far their graduates venture in the work market. "We must constantly anticipate and be updated in dealing with the dynamics. We must continue to improve," he continued.
Two exciting entertainment forms will close the event. First, Ketoprak (Java traditional play) Mergers will be staged on Saturday night, 25 September 2010. The “ketoprak tawa” activity will be played by players that are a mix of professional ketoprak players, Yogya’s comedians, several lecturers, and some alumni. The next day, Economics Jazz Live will be held on 26 September 2010, featuring jazz musicians, among others: Ireng Maulana Kiboud Maulana, Didiek SSS, Yance Manusama, and singers from three different generations: Harvey Malaiholo, Margie Segers, and Citra Idol.
"Hall of UGM is" home "for alumni who graduated up to 1988. It’s time to entertain ourselves in order to be achieving a balance between the left brain and the right brain. Intellectual burden given to the left brain must be balanced with relaxation on the right brain. That’s why some art events are held. Earlier on Sunday morning, September 26, 2010 there will be a Family Fun Day, covering family events ranging from various children and family competitions, golf in Cangkringan, to fun bike. Meanwhile, at the evening, “Discover Indonesia: Green, Blue, and Genuine” concert will take place. The concert featured the World Peace Orchestra (Dwiki Dharmawan and friends) and a number of international guest stars. Singers Sandy Sondhoro, Andien, and Dira Sugandhi will be performing," he said.
According to Tony Prasetiantono, the entire series of event in this Lustrum XI are dedicated to the Faculty as an institution and everyone in it. He hoped this momentum will further enhance their love of FEB-UGM. "May God Almighty continue to give His blessings to FEB-UGM and every one," he concluded.
