YOGYAKARTA-As a world class research university, UGM annually accepts not only domestic students, but also students from various countries. In the academic year 2010/2011, UGM again accepted 115 foreign students for degree programs and 140 non-degree ones. In order to welcome foreign students this year, the Office of International Affairs UGM on Thursday (23/9) held the University Orientation for Foreign Students (UOFFS). "This activity aims to provide orientation to the foreign students of UGM," said Deputy of the Office, Rio Rini Diah Moehkardi at Graha Sabha Pramana UGM.
According to Rio, foreign students at UGM have been involved since 2008 in new students welcoming ceremony. This year, UGM initiated to make the different format from the previous one in order to make the foreign students understand better about what is delivered. "It is adjusted to be more appropriate for the foreign students," she added.
Meanwhile, UGM Vice Rector of Alumni and Business Development, Prof. Ir. Tony Atyanto Dharoko, M. Phil., Ph.D., in his speech welcomed the foreign students who have enrolled in the academic year 2010/2011 at UGM. "Of course, we warmly welcome your presence on UGM campus," Tony said.
The event was enlivened with entertainment from several UGM students’ activity units, including Swagayugama and Gadjah Mada Chamber Orchestra (GMCO), and there were a variety of booths on display relating to students’ everyday life.
