YOGYAKARTA (KU) – Srikandi is a character in Javanese traditional performance, she is commonly known as a powerful female figure who has a beautiful face. But here, Srikandi, is a two and half years old female etawa- breed goat.
Srikandi from Banjarnegara won the overall championships at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine UGM, on Wednesday (22/9). In the contest she managed to set aside hundreds of other animal participants that come from different regions. Not only winning in its class, Srikandi also won the contest in several categories.
At a glance, Srikandi looks like other Etawa goats, hairy, having horns and long ears. However, its long forehead proportional with the neck and lower jaw that is more advanced than the upper jaw, making it more attractive. Srikandi’s long and tidy rear fur makes the goat belonging to Siswanto more beautiful and graceful.
Siswanto (57) said that Srikandi, which he bought two years ago at 13 million rupiah, now costs 200 million rupiah. He still refused that much amount of money to sell the goat. Moreover, by winning the competition in Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Srikandi’s price gets higher. Not surprisingly, to follow the contest, Siswanto deliberately brought his favorite goat in his APV car. "I bought this car by selling three offspring goats of Srikandi. I was also able to send my children to school by rearing Etawa goats," said the man from Pejawaran Village, Banjarnegara, Central Java.
The father of three children claimed to have spent 10 years to rear the goat. At his house, there are 12 goats. But, only Srikandi that often wins a contest. Previously, Srikandi won in Banjarnegara Regency, in Ambarketawang, Yogyakarta, and in Jepara Regency.
An etawa goat whose price is similar to one new car, according to Siswanto, is because this type of goat is a favorite among goat owners. In addition, Etawa’s milk is believed to have fairly high nutrition content.
Siswanto is one of the ranchers who followed the goat contest in Veterinary activities commemorating the 64th anniversary of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine UGM. The other participants were from Purworejo, Klaten, and regencies in Yogyakarta.
Suprayogi, Chairman of Etawa Goat Association of Sleman and coordinator of the contest, said that the interest of participants of the contest is quite high this time, proven by the participants who came from various regions. The assessment was very tight. Assessors consisted of 5 judges and 2 persons who measure the goats. "Most members of the committee helped holding the goat when they were measured," he said.
drh. Sarmin, one member of jury team, said that the contest this time had 8 categories, assessing the shape of the head, ears, posture, jaw, aggressiveness, color patterns, reproduction, jowl, fur, and the harmony of shape.
