Archives and archival institutions in Indonesia today are still trapped on practical issues (practice discussion). It was different from archival institutions in developed countries which have focused on the development of knowledge about the archive (knowledge development).
According to the UGM Head of Archives, Drs. Machmoed Effendhie, M. Hum., in addition to the different paradigm between Indonesia and developed countries, the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI) is yet to be optimalised in making a standardised archiving. "We’re still stuck on talking on the practical problems, while other countries are already at the level of knowledge development," he said in his speech at the 6th Anniversary of UGM Archive and Archives Writing Contest 2010 in Graha Sabha Pramana (GSP) UGM on Monday (4/10).
Machmoed added, after revising the archival standardization, the issue that needs to be resolved is human resources, especially in UGM archives office, its development is expected to continue and cooperate with other universities, both within and outside the country, especially in the field of research.
"Archives of UGM don’t want to have internal responsibility only, but also external responsibility," he said.
With the cooperation that has been established with more advanced countries, the UGM archives can adopt their progress, thus the archival tasks would continue to grow.
“It’s the dream of our friends that archives can develop both as a source of information for research or just for recreation," Machmoed said.
Support for the role of UGM archives also emerged from the university leaders. UGM Executive Secretary Drs. Djoko Moerdiyanto, MA said that all this time, the UGM archives have already become a brand march for the development of archives in various other universities. UGM also wants digital archives in the future.
"It is our desire that digital archives can be applied. But actually an office is also a priority," Djoko said. Consequently, Djoko hoped that UGM archive can continue to take part to provide the required information and reference.

Machmoed Effendhie, M. Hum. Besides, trophies, certificates and financial assistance were also handed over to the three winners of UGM archive’s writing contest.
