"This meeting is of course very important. This idea came from my meeting with Mr. Idham and Mr. Imam at the airport. At that time we had time to talk and it appeared that we need the help of KR for the publication of various activities at UGM," the Rector said.
The Rector said that if the center of the development of education, culture and economy of the 19th century was in Europe and in the 20th century in America, now it is the turn for Asia. By becoming the center of the development of education, culture and economics, the developing countries with large populations such as India, China and Indonesia would be trying to take an important position in Asia. Indonesia could take that role by becoming a mainstay, especially State University leaders. "UGM is certainly more able to contribute to it, because we have the most diverse field. Compared to IPB that concentrates on agricultural disciplines, ITB on Technology, UGM is a miniature of Indonesia, all the fields is here, the students also come from all provinces," he said.
In front of the media leaders, the Rector stated that UGM student body reaches up to 50,000. When compared with 600,000 readers of KR, it is certainly a small figure. "KR is read by all communities, it certainly inspires the building of the nation. Therefore, we expect news of educational activities; research and service in the UGM will spread and benefit the community. Hopefully, this help request is not a burden for KR, but instead increase our love for the society and nation," the Rector said.
Director of KR, Romly, welcomed the request. Without being asked, he said, KR would always give help. "We can and we will, because after all, UGM is property of Yogyakarta," Romly said.
In exchange, Romly hoped that KR has the right to edit the sentences. Because, in his opinion, sentences made by academia such as those from UGM usually are too scientific. "KR expects to be given the right to change the sentence, as long as it is essentially the same. This is for the sake of the community," he explained.
Executive Secretary Drs. Djoko Moerdiyanto, M.A and Head of Protocol and Public Relations Office, Drs. Suryo Baskoro, M.S, from UGM were also present in this occasion.
