YOGYAKARTA (KU) – Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah mada (UGM), and Center for Sustainability Sciences (Census), Hokkaido University (HU), Japan, hold a long-distance lecture on sustainability science. Teleconference lecture is intended for students from UGM and HU in order to share experience and knowledge of research on sustainable fisheries development.
A member of faculty of Fisheries Department, Dr. Suadi, delivered that the long-distance lecture is held for 10 weeks, starting in early October to late December 2010. Hundreds of students have registered as participants of this lecture. Students who registered are not only from the Department of Agriculture, but also other faculties. "Participants in this activity are mostly students of Faculty of Agriculture and other Faculties such as Engineering, Geography, and Pharmacy," Suadi said.
According to Suadi, this lecture not only adds new knowledge and understanding for students to learn more about the technology from other countries, but also introduces students to the long distance lecture. "We believe this study provides new nuances for them to enjoy a different system and friendship as well as a broader view between UGM and HU," lecturer of Department of Fisheries UGM, Dr. Suadi, said on Tuesday (19/10).
Based on the plan, this lecture became one of 1 Credit subject which is mandatory for students. "Our course is designed for students of S-1, both at HU and UGM," he explained.
To expedite the lecture, Department of Fisheries cooperates with the Center for Information and Communication Technology Services (PPTIK) UGM to provide Polycom system equipment. "PPTIK facilitates this learning activity with Polycom system. We hope this activity can be formalized and be a source of new learning model for students at UGM," he said.
The lecture will be delivered by agricultural experts of HU and UGM, such as A. Chitendance, N. Tanaka, J. Bower, Y. Fukushima, N. Tsuji, K. Hara, Dr. Irfan D. Prijambodo, and Dr. Iwan Yusuf B.L. Some topics discussed are low-carbon living (12/10), sustainable world society (19/10), sustainable fisheries management (26/10), biotechnology and sustainability (2/ 11), joint discussion ecofootprinta (9/11 ), life cycle analysis (16/11), attitude sustainability (30/11), water resources and sustainability (7/12), and joint discussion cultural exchange (14/12).
